I would like to know how the school came by it’s name which as you can see is my family name. Most of our family came from the Devon region of the U.K. working in the tin mines them moving to South Wales and the coal mines as the tim mines closed. my father was born in South Wales but my grand parents were all from Devon. I have recently decided to try and trace my family tree, this is when I came across details of your school. I would like to know if there is any connection with Devon in the U.K. Thanks for your help. Mr Lynn Hutchings.

Hutchings was the best school when i attended. I joined this school in nursery and left after finising ISC in 1972. I can never forget Mrs. Mahableshwarwala who is responsible for my excellent english, Mr. Dhavle – the best chemistry teacher and a v.v. jolly person, Mrs. Mathews – excellent physics and maths teacher, Mr Motado Gopal who improved our Hindi (especially spellings) and Mrs. Suri who continued Motado’s good work as we studied gadyamala and padyamala. I will always have the utmost respect for our Principal Mrs. Samuel. We also had excellent teachers in lower standards – some names i remember – Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Dewan, Mrs Bharucha, Ms. Taraporewala (my all time favourite) and ms pimenta. I’m sure there is a special place for teachers in heaven; for having touched and channelled so many lives. The respect and authority enjoy today is a gift from them.

I have heard lot of praise for the school. I want my son to get admission in class VI. The school site is silent about admissions except nursery or Kg.Pl tell us the procedure for admission in class VI.
I have heard about the displine of the school. I wanted my son to be alrounder, so I wish to take admission in your school. Due to my husband’s tranfers, we have changed many schools. Now, I wanted admission for std. 9th, so that he can complete his education upto 12th in your school. I have already submitted my application. My son is not only good in studies but also in sports. I want to also recap some of my best memories at Hutchings, after i graduated in 1976. I cannot forget the good old and valuable memories from those days. Our principal, Mrs. Samuels was a very tough principal but a great person. I also had Mr. Dhawle for Chemistry and some of the teachers mentioned in the blogs above. My most favorite teacher in the lower grades was my piano teacher. I will never forget what Hutchings has provided me and especially where it has taken me in the US now for the last 25 years.

I was interested in an earlier comment provided by Nirmal. I believe he was one of my classmates I have been desperately trying to contact for the past few years. I would be grateful if the organisers of this website would be kind enough to send me his email id or send him my email id.
I joined Hutchings in the 3rd standard with Miss Dewan as my class teacher. She was dedication personified and I remember when she retired the principal mentioned she had never been late on a single day. Miss Briganza in the fourth standard and the wonderful Miss Obed in Class 5 and the two teachers who made a great impression in my life Miss Tarapore and Miss Pimento in class 6 and 7. Besides in the senior school Mrs Mahableshwarwala, Miss Mathews,Sir Dhavle who all made learning interesting. Mrs Samuel was a family friend and kept everyone on their toes. She was a great person her daughters taught us at different times during my time in school.
I am glad the school is still doing a good job and wish them all the best.

I was part of the 1972 batch. I see a note by Nirmal on this page who I believe was my classmate. I fully endorse what he has written. I joined in the 3rd Standard and left in 1972 (ISC).
Miss Dewan was my first class teacher. She was one teacher who had never come a single day late in her entire working life. Miss Briganza in the 4th std, Miss Dsouza in the fifth,Miss Tarapore in the sixth, Ms Pimenta in the seventh and Sir Dhavle and Miss Mathews in the senior school were all excellent teachers. Hindi was one of my worse subjects but Sir Gopal and later Mrs Suri made it so interesting that eventually I scored more in Hindi than in some of my science subjects!

I was at Hutchings only for Standard X and XI and got my ISC in 1965. Mrs. Samuels was the principal and who can forget Mrs. Mahableshwar, best English teacher ever! Better than any teacher I ever had in Hong Kong or the UK. Then there was Miss Matthew, what a great Physics teacher, she’s probably one of the reasons I am an electrical engineer now. Good memories. Any Hutchings alumni in Canada (Vancouver)?
I was a teacher at Hutchings High school way back in 1995-96 and my daughters were also studying there!! I have very fond memories of the sc hool. Infact in the year 2009 I visited the school hoping to meet my x colleagues but unfortunately that day happened to be a holiday!!When I inquired about some of my old colleagues, to my pleasant surprise the chowkidar told me that Mrs.Bhosle was the principal!! I really want to get in touch with some of my old colleagues and pupils!!! Is there any way I can get in touch with them!! I would be very grateful!!

I was a student from Nursery (under Mrs Rowe) to 7th std and thereafter left to join Bishop’s School in 1971. My early years in the school has created a solid foundation for my career esp. the co-ed form helped me to hone up my ‘gentleman soft skills’. I owe my development to Mrs Samuel (disciplinarian Principal), Mrs Taraporewala, Mrs Bhawariwala, Mrs Mahabaleshwarwala, Ms Haque, Ms Anthony (Librarian & English), Ms Vastrad (drawing) to name a few. Mr Sarfarz sir (boot-laces & tie-knot punishment) and Mr Sethi (sports) taught me the need for ‘Persistence to Perfection’…..some of these I have used to teach/coach my sons too.. Wud love to visit the school and re-live old memories and if possible meet my colleagues and teachers….

It is really a small world.
Been to HK a few times and was always wondering what you were upto. You might not remember me but you beat me in the school table-tennis championship and we were in the same class together and you were a good student. I am also trying to contact the others during our time. Hutchings is the best school, and I am proud to be a product of this. Started in 1954 in the nursery where I enjoyed the daily Cocoa & Banana (koco kelo) this costed my gaurdians an additional five rupees per month as additional fees than my sister. I graduated as ISC in the year 1966 under the guidance and leadership of the dedicated teaches and principal in the name of Mrs. Samuels, Mrs Mahableshwarwala, Ms Poonawala, Mrs. Mathews, Mr.Deshmukh, Cannot forget the School Bus Driver I think it was Peter. Also the Christian Scripture Classes made us understand the life better
I wish my children would have gone to this school also, but unfortunately I migrated out of Inda weeks after my graduation
I will be grateful, if somebody can inform me about the teachers and school mates from that period
